Welcome to Cocurricular Sports 2025

24 Jan 2025 by Brodie Atkinson

Hi Families,

I am Brodie Atkinson the new Director of Co-Curricular Sport at Mercedes College and looking forward to meeting you all.

My background is in sport and in particular AFL where I have played professionally for St Kilda and the Adelaide Crows and locally for North Adelaide and Sturt in the SANFL. In 2000 I was awarded the Australian Sports Medal for my dedication to Sport/ AFL Football.

My three children have all come through the Sacred Heart system where they have all participated in many sports. Through their participation I have actively assisted through coaching or volunteering with umpiring, scoring etc.

My wife Rebecca nee Loveband was a Mercedes Old Scholar and worked at the school 20 years ago in the Communications/ Marketing Department.

I am extremely passionate about developing young people and get a lot satisfaction in seeing them improve and enjoying their sport.

I’m excited to be working with a new team in the Sports Department which has undergone a number of changes and restructure in this area.

Deb Hocking who many of you would have dealt with last year will be the Sports Coordinator for Girls Middle/Senior.

Kaiden Brand has come across from Nazareth College and will be the Sports Coordinator for Boys Middle/Senior.

We will also be onboarding a new member who will specifically look after all Primary Boys and Girls Co-Curricular Sports.

There has been a new portal which has gone out to families and students to nominate their sports for Term 1 Summer Sports. Please take the time to sit with your child/children to select the sport they are looking to participate in.

We are working extremely hard behind the scenes to ensure you as families have all the information you need, and to provide a program your child/children enjoys and flourishes.

Like anything new there are always going to be areas to improve but please be patient, we ultimately want to provide a great experience for you and your child/children and something we all are proud to be a part of.

I look forward to meeting you all throughout the year and excited to work with the students and get to know them all.

Go Camels!

Brodie Atkinson
Director of Co-Curricular Sport
